Patriots Clinch AFC East Division Title. Posted by KevinS on 4 Jan 2007 at 04:45:50 [4 comments] We beat the Eagles 14-9 to win our first Division Title and make the playoffs for the first time in the Franchise's RealDeal History. Our secondary has been banged up but young players have stepped in and done a great job filling in. McCutcheon out 40 weeks with Knee Surgery, Hill out 21 weeks with a torn rotator cuff and McGee out 22 weeks with Knee Surgery. We gave up yards against the Eagles but our defense performed well when it needed to allowing just 9 points.
We find ourselves currently on a 5 game winning streak. Our dilemma now is do we play our starters to finish 11-5 and get that number 2 seed or do we rest players against the Jets so we are somewhat at full strength for the playoffs.
Anyway nice dilemma to have as we started this season with chronic cap issues and traded a lot of talent away and gained lower talented cheaper players in their place. However we have seen Carson Palmer start to blossum and has not thrown an interception now in 3 games which is a great streak for him to be on. We continue to give away frustrating penalties though and helped the Eagles on at least 2 occasions that i can remember extend their drives by being penalized on 3rd down plays.
We have seen great play from our #1 pick Thurman Monroe who has played at NT the last few weeks due to injuries that have forced the Pats to move back to a 3-4 defense. One thing that we definately did a great job in the offseason was accumulate a lot of depth and it certainly has paid off as we have lost Palmer for a couple of games this season and Alexander for a few games also.
Looking forward to our first playoff appearance and hope we can make some noise.

[b:73da064e85][i:73da064e85]New England Patriots @ Miami Dolphins[/i:73da064e85][/b:73da064e85]
Well, the season opener was a trip to South Florida against the Dolphins for a division battle to start the REALDEAL season. It was a hot 93 degrees and rainy in Miami for the game. After a hard fought offseason to get out of cap hell the Patriots brought in a lot of players to replace some major stars that cost a lot of money.
The Patriots first possession did not start out to well with it ending in a Carson Palmer interception. However the Pats defense stopped them and the Dolphins went 3 and out. The Patriots opened the scoring on a 54 yard Field goal from Ryan Longwell. The Patriots defense was again able to stop the Dolphins offense and set themselves up for a 30 yard Field Goal that was successful to make it 6-0 New England. After a Miami field goal and another Carson Palmer interception. The Dolphins took the lead after getting the ball in great field position they took advantage of it and McNabb hit Jones from 2 yards out for the TD and give Miami a 10-6 lead.
That is how the half would end with the Dolphins leading 10-6.
Late in the 3rd Quarter after a very defensive series of possession in most of the 3rd the Patriots would move the ball 96 yards on 15 plays to take the lead on a Shaun Alexander run from 1 yard out and the Patriots would lead 13-10.
On the very first play of the 4th Quarter the Dolphins gave the ball right back to the Patriots when McCutcheon picked off McNabb and returned it 21 yards to the Miami 44. The Patriots would take advantage of this turnover and field position and turn it into a Touchdown with a Palmer to Evans 2 yard TD pass.
The Patriots now lead 20-10 and the two teams would exchange Field goals late in the 4th for a 23-13 Patriots win.
Did not know what to expect from this team, with so many new faces and never having won on Week 1 we did think that we would more than likely lose a close one in Miami. However this is a great result for us that we can build on. Certainly next week against the Redskins at home will tell us if this is a fluke or a Patriots team turning the corner.
Shaun Alexander was outstanding on the day with 132 yards and a TD. I was very happy with the way the defense performed and QB Carson Palmer started off sluggish with 2 first half interceptions but had a solid second half.Click here for more... | Patriots 2007 Season Preview. Posted by KevinS on 29 Oct 2006 at 16:44:53 [3 comments] As we are just a few hours away from the start of the REALDEAL 2007 Season the Patriots are going into this season with an open mind. Last year expectations were high and we finished with a dissapointing 8-8 record and once again missing out on the playoffs. This offseason we were dealt with some horrible cap issues that were certainly self inflicted but an issue that looked daunting in the beginning. We had to trade away a lot of talent that was on this team for cheaper players but tried to get in return players that would certainly help us compete and not just be a cheap contract. In many ways i feel we completed that task quite well.

AS you can see by this list of players leaving the talent that left the Patriots was immense, and a couple of teams may have helped their chances out at knocking off the 49ers to becoming Super Bowl champions based on the trades that were made. That being said we did in return receive quality players that i feel have helped add a lot of depth to this team that was certainly lacking last couple of years.

So going into the draft the Patriots had accumulated a good number of picks also due to the trades and used that to move up in the first round to get their man and once again went Defense with their #1 Draft pick DT THURMAN MONROE.
[b:76bc3daaa0]DRAFT REVIEW[/b:76bc3daaa0]
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]1.9 Thurman Monroe[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
A Quality Defensive tackle and certainly the best at his position in the draft and will start for the Patrioits in Week One. This will add another top player to an already very talented line that has a good mix of young and veteran talent.
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]2.32 WR Daniel Blair[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
A suprise pick for many here as they already have a lot of receivers but Blairs combine numbers were very good and the Patriots actually had him going before this and could not pass him up at this point.
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]3.18 OLB Leroy Gampper[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
Again a player that impressed the Patriots at the combine and felt he was a perfect player to back up Porter and learn from him. Will see limited playing time this season but could grow into a valuable back up or even starter for the Pats in the future.
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]4.22 ILB Howard Shannon[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
Once again looking for someone to back up MLB Morrison as the Patriots make a switch to the 4-3. Liked what we saw from him in College but has a long way to go and hopefully we can see him develop into what we saw from him at the combine.
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]4.28 QB Bob Moye[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
Not a position of need for the Patriots but scouts raved about this kid and with an extra pick in the 4th round the Patriots pounced on this kid. We felt that his intelligence and outstanding combine numbers that he had the potential to be a breakthrough player. We saw some good signs of that in pre-season and we are encouraged about his future with us. So much so that the Patriots cut Tim Rattay to make Moye the 3rd string Qb for the season.
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]5.18 DE Neal Disney[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
We liked this kid and knew that we needed another Defensive end with us moving to the 4-3 this season, we think Disney will be a very capable back up and hope he progresses behind a lot of talent on this line.
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]6.18 RB Cory Richmond[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
Another surprise here as the Patriots had plenty of depth already but again the scouts saw something in this kid that they could not pass up on, Unfortunately whatever it was they saw never came through in training camp or pre-season as he was cut this past week.
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]7.9 ILB Marshall Conley[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
A project here in Conley but have been pleasently suprised as he has so far progressed better than Shannon that we picked up in the 4th round. Probably won't see much action this year but if he keeps working hard his future looks bright.
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]7.18 WR Sammy Gomez[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
Not sure what we were thinking here but needless to say he is no longer a Patriot.
So as the first game of the season fast approaches with a visit to South Florida to play the Dolphins which i think is a very even matchup against two teams that will be battling it out for 3rd place this year in the AFC EAST. I have to say i am more encouraged about my defense who i think will keep us in games it is on the offensive side of the ball where there are many questions. Beginning with QB can Carson Palmer finally show us his potential talent, can this average offensive line give Palmer the time he needs and can they open up holes for the running game. My prediction for the game agains Miami would be a 20-17 win for the Dolphins.
[b:76bc3daaa0][color=blue:76bc3daaa0][/color:76bc3daaa0]HOW I SEE THE AFC EAST FINISHING[/b:76bc3daaa0]
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]JETS 11-5[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]BILLS 10-6[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]DOLPHINS 7-9[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
[b:76bc3daaa0][i:76bc3daaa0]PATRIOTS 6-10[/i:76bc3daaa0][/b:76bc3daaa0]
The switch to a 4-3 Defense this season certainly saw a different defense this pre-season where we were very happy with the results. Rookie DT Thurman Monroe looked good with 7 tackles, 3 assists, 1 sack, 2 hurries and a pass block. He will start on opening day and DT Simon will switch to the right side. We have depth in the Secondary and Kenoy Kennedy looks to continue the great form he showed last season and be the leader of this secondary.Click here for more... | The Sun does still shine in New England. Posted by KevinS on 2 May 2006 at 01:57:35 [1 comments] After a week off it was a long two weeks in New England with the Patriots fans fuming over the way their team had started the season. Their Week 7 matchup was not going to get any easier for them as their banged up secondary had to face a QB that was tearing defenses apart so far this season.
After their week 5 demoralising loss against the Titans the Patriots coach promised changes for their next game. The fans thought this would mean that their wishes were being answered and that Carson Palmer would start at QB after terrible performances from Kerry Collins. The change that would occur was starting Backup LT Nat Dorsey. What would happen on Sunday made Head Coach Kenneth McDade look like a genious. Free Agent Signing Kerry Collins had a fantastic game and was voted offensive player of the week throwing for 4 touchdowns and completing 21 of 29 passes for 257 yards.
Shawn Alexander had a great game also for the Pats and helped by LT Nat Dorsey who for me was huge for the Pats in this game with 6 key blocks that helped Alexander rush for 114 yards and a TD.
The Patriots would go into the 4th Quarter of this game trailing 17-21. The Fourth Quarter turned out to be an explosive QTR. It started with a Jammer blocked punt which Andre Carter recovered and the Pats never looked back after that winning 38-31.
Other encouraging performances for the Pats were rookie LDE Sagapolutele had his best performance as a professional with 3 tackles, 1 sack, 1 hurry and 1 forced fumble that was created by his sack.
Also Free Agent signing WLB Joey Porter had 4 tackles, 2 assists, 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery.
So good feelings are back again in New England and a crucial Division rivalry matchup with the Jets at Giants Stadium in Week 8. The Pats have lost all 3 times against the Jets and will look to record their first win agains the Jets which would really have the Patriots fans happy.Click here for more... | QB Controversy in New England??? Posted by KevinS on 4 Apr 2006 at 02:15:56 [1 comments] So is there a QB controversy in New England? The Patriots are deciding to go with Free Agent acquisition Kerry Collins as their starting QB. This decision being made after a very good pre-season performance by Carson Palmer. Collins inability to throw a TD during pre-season compared to 3 TDs by Palmer is what has the fans scratching their heads to the decision that has been made.
The Patriots Head Coach insists that they are going with the more experienced QB to lead this team and that Collins is their guy. Admitting in his press conference that Palmer was impressive during the pre-season and that he is the future at this position for the franchise and that his time will come.
The QB position in general is a position the Patriots feel very comfortable in if an injury should occure. In the last game of pre-season QB Quincy Carter was named MVP of the game with a 10-9-82-1-0 performance and went 6-46 on the ground.
There are plenty of weapons for these QBs to throw to starting with an impressive WR duo of Johnson and Burress who both looked sharp during pre-season. We will see however if the conflict between these two turns out to be a problem down the road. If things start to go south on the Pats we will surely see how bad this conflict is, however at the moment things are all quit on this front.
Finally this pre-season the Patriots were able to sign their 1st round draft pick LDE Glenn Sagapolutele to a 5 year $16.64 million deal. The question with him is not his potential but with missing out on pre-season how much or how little will he play in week 1.
The Patriots are looking to make the playoffs this year and take the division title from rivals the Jets who beat them twice last year.
