RDFL Rules

Introduction

The RDFL is a multiplayer Front Office Football league that was set up by players of a play by mail game called Gameplan. The league has been running for just under 3 seasons now and has mostly UK based GMs. We are a friendly but competitive league with good participation. The detailed rules are set out below.

1. Schedule

The league runs 2 game turns per week and 2 optional mid-week turns, on the following days:

Monday
Tuesday mid-week
Wednesday game turn
Thursday
Friday
Saturday mid-week
Sunday game turn

All files are to be uploaded using the upload facility which can be accessed via the website. The current schedule can be found here: http://www.braddersnet.co.uk/rdfl/calendar.php

2. Inactivity

GMs are encouraged to participate regularly through exports and through forum discussion. If there is a specific reason for absence then ideally let the commish know. If a GM is awol, and the commish cannot contact them then they may be removed from the league.

3. League Structure

The league follows the 2004 NFL teams and structure. Teams can be moved within the rules of the game.

4. Contract Negotiations

All GMs are expected to undertake contract negotiations in a sportsmanlike way. This applies to all contracts, whether it is a renegotiation or an offer to a free agent.

5. Rookie Signings
Draftees that have not had a contract offer must be released by the end of preseason games.

6. Trades
Both team GMs must post their agreement of the trade terms in the Pending/Completed Trades forum for the offer to become officially pending. All trades must be approved by the commish, and notification of a trade completion will be posted.

The trade deadline is the midweek prior to week 5.

7. Salary Cap
If a team is over the salary cap at the end of training camp, then its GM must immediately release players to get back under the cap. Failure to do so will result in the loss of a 3rd round pick in the next draft and the commish deciding which players must be cut.

8. Roster Size Limit
No team may have more than 70 players under contract on their roster at any time without approval by the commish (in the case of extreme injuries, for example). Teams found in violation of this rule will be forced to cut players and may lose a 3rd round draft pick at the commish?s discretion.

9. Postseason Signings
Once the postseason begins, and for the duration of the playoffs, any team that is not in the playoffs is prohibited from signing new free agents. Teams that are in the playoffs can sign new free agents, as the 53-man roster allows, but can't sign any players released by other teams during this period. Signings are restricted to those players who were in the free agent pool at the end of the regular season.

10. Position Changes
To ensure that players are not downgraded maliciously prior to a release, the following rules pertain to position changes.

As long as a position switch is not made with the explicit intent of significantly lowering the player's skill set/ratings, in the commish?s judgement, it will be allowed.

Any position change must be posted in the appropriate forum for review by the commish.

In the case of a position change that is deemed unacceptable, the teams export will not be used. If an owner continually exports unacceptable position changes, the commish may decide on a punishment they deem acceptable on a case by case basis.

11. Draft

The draft will take place using the draft utility and the schedule for the draft will be posted on the forum

12. Free Agency

Free agency will largely operate on the same basis as the regular season but may be speeded up towards the end of the period.

13. Catch All Rule

It?s supposed to be fun so we try and make it work, but anything that is deemed to be unfair will be dealt with.
